Are You Bothered?

IMG_4418.JPG

Enviromentalism for many people conjures up images of scruffy looking people Climbing up trees and cranes and hanging banners. Or being a nuisance while they are busy protesting.

Its proponents are often scoffed at, ridiculed, and end up increasingly falling foul of laws which seem to be often used to silence what is often seen as a group of awkward trouble makers.

I like this definition of enviromentalism, exerted from Wikipedia.

"At its crux, Enviromentalism is an attempt to balance relations between humans and the natural systems on which they depend in such a way that all the components are afforded a proper degree of sustainability."

It seems to me that what we are really talking about here is... Living in Harmony.

Further reference to Wikipedia revealed that there is apparently a "'precipitous decline in the publics interest "in the subject. Perhaps more worrying is that Americans are apparently now "more likely to be unsympathetic to an enviromental movement than in 2000".

Truthfully, I should think that pretty much applies to every nationality..

So why the increasing hostility to something intrinsically so important and worthwhile?

Wikipeda refers to a seeming connection to the Great depression of 2008 which is a "lingering factor"'.It concludes that..."These numbers point to the growing complexity of enviromentalism and its reationship to economics.."'

I see this as a worrying trend . I hope you do too, because at a pivotal moment when our natural world needs protecting like never before , our motivation to help seems to have plummeted.

Worse still, and largely motivated by our economic concerns, and the hectic busyness of modern lives, a lot of us seem to have become hostile to the whole concept.

How about you? Are you too busy to be bothered?

It is after all your home too.

With gratitude to the contributors to Wikipedia.

The Joy of Contribution.

True Joy

True Joy

How can you experience true wellbeing if you are not a well-being?

Ask yourself, honestly, how can you feel good when you are part of the problem?

If you care to look, you will find plenty of wrongs being done on your behalf, to add to any that you may your self be doing.

You may well ask, where is the joy in this?

LOOK BEYOND THE WORLD OF INSTANT GRATIFICATION! Be aware of the problems so you can aim to be part of the solution.

For there is joy to be found in contributing to a better world. You just have to be open enough to recieve it.

This is vital work in a world where we are currently the problem.

We need to change the equation, question our role in things and individually transform so that we can truly say we are part of the solution.

Questions are powerfull things,. Begin to ask more questions of the things you have been conditioned to accept as normal.

By simply TRYING to become part of the solution you WILL make a difference. Even inspiring others to do the same is a valuable contribution in itself.

There are so many ways to make small contributions, and when you scale up a lot of small contributions, fortune follows. A windfall for the world.

Why not consider the many benefits that will come your way, and the way of those you love, from making that transition?

If you have not already noticed it,  in the test lab of your own life, then look out for the old cliche of karma. From my own experience there does seem to be something in it.

Why not then consciously set out to create some good karma in your life?

I can think of no better place to begin than trying to protect the divine place that is our biosphere..

Who knows you could be pivotal in setting off a chain reaction of good Karma that washes around the world. We could all do with as much good Karma as possible.

Please consider this.

If you were to make a concious decision today, to be guided by the compass of being a well-being, how could that revolutionise your life?

Would your journey through it not become a lot more worthwhile? A lot more meaningfull.

Aim for wellbeing. Aim for contribution. Joy will follow.

The Quest for Harmony

Do you feel as though the pace of modern life is accelerating as the demands that are made on us continue to staple up?

Were we not promised a brave new world, where our technologies helped improve the quality of our lives? Is the quality of our lives improving?

In some ways we are told we have never had it so good, and it would be unfair to ignore the many benefits and privilages that come with modern life. But there is a real price that is being paid and it is good to be aware of it.

As our lives seem to become ever more compressed and pressurised, it is easy to miss the eroson of one of our most priceless assets. Time.

Time waits for no man they say. It seems to be running out for OUR HOME, the natural world too.

In the modern world, the increasing layers of complexity that we build into our lives as we try  to adapt to this new age, is becoming part of the problem.

The stresses that arise from trying to cope with a societal life that prioritizes effeciency, are mounting. The machines, the technology, sometimes have a negative impact on our quality of life.

They seem to do more harm than good.

We are after all, when all is said and done, children of the natural world, living in a rapidly evolving star trek reality.

Our new realities are too often hallmarked by hurry and haste. Stress, pressure, illness, depression and fractured families and communities are the result of this.

The gravitational pull of modern life is pulling us away from our natural roots to an increasingly sterile, dead place. Too many of us have become slaves to the persuit of an ideal that we dont really understand.

We are enslaving ourselves voluntarily in persuit of an illusion. A mirage.

Your time is perhaps your most valuable commodity, but you (and me) we give it away while we support and persue a lifesyle based on societal expectations and norms, which often lie unexamined.

Perhaps its time we started to ask a few more questions.

At the moment we are, (whether we realise it or not) following a track, a route. It could be compared to what we see in the natural world, for example with the journey of the caribou.

Only with us it has long ceased to be a natural track.

It started off as one but somewhere along the route, it deviated, became tarmacked over time, and dotted with petrol stations and cheap hotels.

Who knows why we continue to use this route? Because it is there? Because it is easy?

It feels more like the journey of the fabled lemmings.

Over a cliff.

This modern utopia, the destination, is likely to be a very dissapointing place for so many us.  We may experience fleeting moments of clarity, but these are often found in moments of personal crisis when we cannot deny the truth of our existence.

That is the place of regrets, and those are generally nasty things.

If the modern world is  a hard and unsatisfactory place for us, we can become so busy trying to survive in it that we loose track of the bigger picture.

While we are personally trying to stay afloat, our natural world is sinking, being overwhelmed by us as we persue the dream. This process is accelerating dangerously.

Our erosion and degrading of our biosphere is I believe the greatest act of vandalism in our history. Simply put we no longer value these natural assets. Too often they are regarded as a natural price to be paid in the persuit of our modern dream.

I believe that the core of the problem is that we are increasingly living OUT of harmony with our world.

Our modern society is pulling us to a place where we are dissconnected from what is real, relevant and meaningfull.

Disharmony is dangerous for you personally, for our society, and most importantly for our home, the natural world we depend on.

Reaching for more harmonious lives, more balance, more personal integrity, is the key to unlocking many of our personal problems...and those of the world around us.

The key seems to be harmony, and my pilgrimmage is the search for it.

I say lets ask some questions. If necessary lets change track.

I believe thats where real Joy is to be found.

Do YOU want to feel good?

Surely we all do on some level, but it can be an elusive thing.

Feeling good should be something we all regularly experience, because it is the root of all happiness

Sunny and Big Boy

So why is it so elusive?

" A sense of wellbeing, comes from being a well-being..."

This is not a riddle. Think about it.

We do not set out with the intention to become un-well, rather it is a creeping thing.

As we navigate our way through our busy modern lives, we are bombarded by so many things. So many of these are, in reality trivial and meaningless.

It is then easy to become confused. We loose our tracks, get lost and often end up going around in ever decreasing circles.

My hamster was a master of this, she specialised in spinning on her wheel.

If it goes on for long enough it can lead to a sense of hopelessness and depression, the opposite of being a well-being.

How good would it feel to live a life of balance and in harmony with the natural world, a life full of meaning? To know that your life amounted to something.

Imagine that you are an asset to the world. A contributer. It would feel great. You could find real purpose in this, because in this world there is no shortage of opportunities to contribute.

YOUR WORLD NEEDS YOU LIKE NEVER BEFORE.

More specifically the natural world badly needs a friend, and any contribution we make to restoring it, will I believe be richly rewarded.

If your not already in the space of contribution, how do you get there?

That is the holy grail, the Quest.

That is the Pilgrimmage on which I am inviting you to travel, for I believe that together we can make the world a better place.
